Playing Omaha poker game is just like playing a variation of the familiar Texas Hold 'em poker game. However, in the Omaha game players are dealt four hole cards face down instead of two. The objective is to combine no more or less than two hole cards with three community cards to create the best five-card hand..
But, how do you play Omaha poker?
As in Texas Holdem poker, the two poker players to the left of the dealer post the small and large blinds (forced bets) respectively. When four cards have been dealt face down to each live player, the action progresses with the player to the left of the large blind, and continues in a clockwise rotation.
OMAHA Hi Rules
- When playing Omaha Hi poker, players receive four down cards as their personal hand (hole cards), after which there is a round of betting.
- Three board cards are turned simultaneously (called the "flop") and another round of betting occurs.
- The next two board cards are turned one at a time, with a round of betting after each card.
- At the showdown of a hand, a player must use no more or less than two hole cards in combination with three of the cards on the board (community cards) to create the best five-card hand.
- Other than number of hole cards (two) combined with the number of community cards (three), the same rules for Texas Hold em apply to Omaha Hi.
OMAHA Hi-Lo Rules
1. All the Omaha rules apply to playing Omaha high-low split except as below. .
2. A qualifier of 8-or-better for low is used. This means to win the low half of the pot, a player's hand at the showdown must have five cards of different ranks that are an eight or lower in rank. (An ace is the highest card and also the lowest card.) If there is no qualifying hand for low, the best high hand wins the whole pot.
